The Barn
It’s heart wrenching to see heritage buildings in ruins and to wonder whom and what stories a pile of beautiful stone could tell. This courtyard of outbuildings had once sheltered cattle and cart horses in its heyday as part of a working farm. This project combined architectural treatment as well as interiors. Walls had to be rebuilt, and roofs recreated using heritage timber, stone and slate. Lime was used to point the stone walls both internally and externally and traditional brick sets created timeless flooring. Once the construction phase was completed we moved onto the interior decoration. In the 7 rooms created, we protected the internal stone walls by using sympathetic mounted copper pipe work for heating and aluminium for lighting. The 7 rooms consisted of a Barn Kitchen including dog shower, a music room, bar with sink and drinks refrigerators. The relaxed seating area adjacent to the bar was subtly separated with an fabulous antique stable partition the style which would have been there originally. To the other side of the courtyard gave space to two offices, a boardroom, gym and hidden storage. The courtyard with internal doors throughout created a seamless flow from room to room. The design combines heritage with a rustic twist to appreciate the natural stone and timbers while offering maximum functionality.
