The Castle
A fabulous castle passing through four centuries with the oldest part of the structure dating back to 1510 , Graded A by Historic Environment Scotland due to its historic merit. Truly a Gem in The Scottish Highlands. The latest wing to the castle built in 1908 was the starting point for the new chapter of this historic Scottish stronghold. The 1908 wing required complete rewiring and heating systems throughout with some floor replacement due to a fire decades earlier and poor repair works. It needed a complete redecoration to every room including 3 bedrooms, a shower room, bathroom, kitchen and snug as well as hallways and staircases. The rooms were empty, apart from a beautiful roll top bath. The bath was enamelled and its tap mechanisms repaired, a highlight moment restoring what was already there. Although built in Edwardian era, the architecture was very much Victorian and the design we bought to it reflects on its origins, through room schemes, antiques and soft furnishings. The castle sits hidden surrounded by historical acclaimed trees and dense woodland. This context of the setting determined paint pallets and fabrics throughout, to truly embrace and respect its provenance.
