The Farmhouse and The Garden Kitchen

There are certain fundamentals when designing an interior space and that is flow. When you walk through the front door, how do you feel and what do you naturally walk towards? This beautiful farmhouse set on a little hill with a view of undulating fields that fall away into the distance needed a flow rethink. Synonymous with classic farmhouse style, this home was long. Through a cramped hall and utility room you came across the kitchen, while at the other end of the house was an amazing ‘museum’ room only used occasionally. This house had no heart, but by changing the flow and function of certain rooms we gave the home a soul. The kitchen moved to the museum room allowing for an extensive island as its focal point, whilst creating a cosy sitting room in the old kitchen. The utility became a charming yet functional boot room, the playroom, became a library for personal contemplation or with a cheeky hidden bar behind the bookshelf, a cosy space to host pre-dinner drinks which seamlessly flowed into the dining room. Pokey bathrooms and loos became spacious ensuites. The new kitchen now enjoyed the existing floor to ceiling double doors creating an intimate connection with the garden. This closeness sparked the inspiration for a garden kitchen to include pizza oven, Argentinian grill with lounge seating and an open fire. With a complete remodel of the floor plan and functions of the rooms, this beautiful farmhouse now matched the lifestyle of the owner.
